Due to significant increases in market prices, the cost of purchasing a verified tonne of carbon reduction via our API and from our marketplace (through the ‘Buy more impact’ button) is increasing from ÂŁ3.70 to ÂŁ6.50. The price changes will be rolled out across our platform on the following dates:

One-off purchases through our ‘Buy / Gift more impact’ button – 18th January 2022

API purchases – 1st February 2022

This will not affect subscription plans at this time.

Industry-wide, the cost of buying and retiring one tonne of carbon has increased dramatically over the past year. This means we need to update the pricing for carbon via our API and in our marketplace, so that it more closely matches the real cost of carbon in the market.

At Ecologi, impact is our foremost goal which means we continuously strive to balance cost and quality. Our public ledger gives you direct insight into our purchasing philosophy and visualises how we distribute our income between operational costs and impact.

FAQs

  • Why has the cost of carbon increased?

This has been due to a significant increase in demand to buy and retire carbon in recent months, which has pushed up the price of carbon across the market. Here at Ecologi, we always purchase carbon which is verified to a leading carbon standard, and from projects which we believe will have a lasting positive impact on people and planet. The cost of purchasing carbon reductions from these high-quality projects has more than doubled in the past year, and so in order to continue to support these projects, we need to ensure we are charging the appropriate amount on our platform.

  • Will the carbon I’ve purchased so far this month be charged at the new price?

  • Will the cost of trees be increasing?
